Legal Separation

An alternative to divorce for couples that can't continue to live together but do want to end their marriage. Legally the couple can separate after petitioning the court to recognize the separation. However, there are some states that don't recognize the legal documentation of separation.

A separation agreement is the legal document signed by the couple. The issues of child and spousal support, as well as living arrangements are addressed. Some states require legal assistance in making the separation agreement legally binding. Your attorney makes the application to the court so that the judge can sign the arrangement.
