Paternity
Is legal identification of the father of a child. Once the paternity is established, the acknowledged father gains legal rights to his child, as well as responsibilities for supporting child.
A paternity test is conducted to establish if a person is the biological parent of the child. Most states have laws that require unmarried couples to fill out an Acknowledgment of Paternity (AOP) form to legally establish who the father is.
Results are usually available in 5 or less business days. The testing facility should be accredited.
